Cooperation with implant manufacturers
The hip and knee arthroplasty registers have long had a fruitful collaboration with the implant industry. The collaboration continues with the Swedish Arthroplasty Register (SAR). For both parties, it is of great importance to determine which implants are of the highest quality and for which patient’s different implants are best suited.
The register data are very valuable to see long-term results of different implants in broad clinical practice. With the help of register data, implant manufacturers can thus determine which products are worth investing in. Register data can also show whether the implants are being used in the right way and for the right indications. If not, perhaps information efforts need to be made at the units.
Special web tools
The SAR will have a special web tool for implant manufacturers. They get access to it for a fee based on how many of their implants are inserted in Sweden each year. Each implant manufacturer receives information about their own implants in comparison with the total of Sweden. The tool shows how many of their various implants are inserted in total in the country and per hospital. The manufacturer can also see market share for its own implants. In addition, it is possible to see outcomes for different groups of implants.
The following implant manufacturers are currently connected to the hip and knee arthroplasty registers web tool: LINK Sweden, Stryker, Smith & Nephew, DePuy Johnson & Johnson and Zimmer.
